Richard, I wouldn’t say that there is no point in using Observables in http requests as it is core. In older version of Angular (v4), it used to return promise (https://v4.angular.io/tutorial/toh-pt6).

Observables are always superior than promise. Regarding retrying requests, rxjs gives a methods called retry() which we can leverage.
